WHATCOM COUNTY SCHOLASTIC CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS
JANUARY 12, 2008
LYNDEN FAIRGROUNDS ***ENTER NOW***

Attendance: Last year this event drew 207 players. Advance registration only!
Format: K-12 tourney-- K-2 section, 3-5 section, 6-8 section, 9-12 section.
Location: Northwest Washington Fairgrounds.
Time: Check-in from 8:30 to 9:00am, opening ceremonies at 9:05am. Rounds estimated at 9:40, 11:00, 12:00, 1:50, 3:10. Awards ceremony 4:40.
Eligible: Any student grades K-12 who lives or attends school in Whatcom County. (The High School section is also open to Skagit County students.)
Sponsored By: Theresa Tromp Chess Trust and Chess4Life.
Awards: Generous number of trophies and medals to top finishers.
Entry Fee: $7 per person (plus an additional $1.50 convenience fee for online registration), pre-registration only, there will be no on-site registration.
Concessions: Available on Site, also:
Pizza Lunch includes: 1 slice of pizza, beverage and chips. Cost is $4. Options: cheese or pepperoni. To order this check the option during registration.
Miscellaneous: Please bring clock if you have one. Chess sets are provided.

WHATCOM MIDDLE SCHOOL LEAGUE
ONE EVENING: JANUARY 14
AT FERNDALE HS CAFETERIA
All Whatcom County middle schools, junior highs, and private schools that encompass 6th through 8th graders are invited to join the 2007-08 season of the Whatcom Chess League, a WHSCA rated league. The format will be a three round Swiss. Teams will consist of four players, and the matches will take place concurrently with the final high school league meet. Please register in advance by emailing fun@modelsailboat.com. You can also sign up at the Whatcom County Championships on January 12.

STATE HS MINI-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
LOCALS COMPETE
The top three-member teams from throughout the State converged on Meadowdale High School on December 8. The championship was taken by the Bainbridge Island team, losing only two of the fifteen games played.
